Arthur Heiserman

I have over 25 years experience working with individuals (adults, adolescents, and children) and couples on a wide variety of emotional issues and life challenges. My goal is to help people overcome limitations and gain a greater feeling of authenticity as they create more fearless and expansive lives. I draw on a number of different treatment perspectives that are effective in working through troubling emotions and result in greater mental clarity.  These techniques pave the way to more choice in how you want to live. In particular, I use a psychoanalytic approach to address repetitive patterns and historical forces that can get in the way of creating the life people want to live. I pay careful attention to, and collaboratively explore, the subtleties and intricacies of personal and interpersonal experiences as they unfold in the moment.  Over the years I have seen considerable benefit in focusing on what is felt within the therapeutic relationship as a valuable source of understanding inhibitions, limitations and discovering possibilities for change. This focus heightens the likelihood that the most significant emotional dilemmas will come to life in the present and be worked through, clearing the way to adopting new, empowering perspectives on yourself and others. When called for, I fold in behavioral and cognitive techniques to address specific problems and to help develop a sense of competency, control, and agency. But no matter what you bring into treatment to work on, I offer highly personalized care tailored to your needs and aspirations. The goal is to liberate you from unsatisfying or painful patterns in your personal life and to help you develop greater trust in yourself, stronger and more resilient relationships, build self-confidence and self-esteem, and ultimately broaden your capacity to live life more flexibly, creatively and meaningfully.
