Hlavek Art Therapy Elizabeth Hlavek
As a Board Certified Art Therapist I use Art Therapy to facilitate expression and self-awareness. Through art making and sharing, Art Therapy allows individuals to communicate in an alternative, sometimes safer, format. Art Therapy can be beneficial for those who struggle to communicate and express themselves verbally, whether due to cognitive impairments, psychological distress or other reasons. I believe that an individual's artwork reflects their inner experience. The actual process of art making can also be quite cathartic and increase an individual's sense of identity and self esteem.
Art Therapy does not require art skills and art materials are provided. I work with my clients using a variety of media based on personal preference and therapeutic goals. Sessions and artwork are always confidential.
I have worked on an inpatient eating disorders unit for 3 years, focusing primarily on body image issues related to adolescents as well as trauma. I also have experience working with military personnel and dependents exploring issues related to deployment, reintegration and identity.
