It takes soul to be whole
I am using the term soul to refer to the deeply personal and individual aspects of yourself, those qualities that make you who you are. If you sometimes feel as though there is more to life than you are experiencing or that you have lost your way, it may be that you have lost the critical connection to yourself and to others. Relationship issues and unwanted behaviors can also be clues that you are not living the fulfilled and meaningful life you desire. If this sounds like you, I can help.
Previous experience in the corporate human resources world combined with specialized training in spirituality, trauma, and art therapy have provided me with a unique blend of skills. My counseling style is practical and focused on your treatment goals, yet encourages personal growth by expanding your vision of what's possible for you in life. By tailoring each session to client needs and flexibly using psychodynamic insight, cognitive behavioral techniques, and art therapy, the counseling process becomes a creative, collaborative, and rewarding experience. As a certified spiritual director, I am comfortable with incorporating spirituality as desired by the client and am supportive of all who seek to deepen their faith.
In addition to working with individuals, a large part of my practice is devoted to couples counseling. Emphasis is placed on immediate de-escalation of conflict so that couples can work toward meaningful goals, rebuilding trust in the case of infidelity, restoring intimacy, and improving communication.
My interest in trauma began when working with patients with disordered eating in a large Houston hospital. There I began to see the link between trauma and disordered eating, and since then I have received specialized training in trauma. I am currently pursuing certification as a trauma specialist.
Art therapy can help clients get in touch with their feelings, clarify options, and explore life goals. I offer individual art therapy as well as ongoing art therapy groups which are listed on my website, http://www.soulscapecounseling.com. No previous experience at all with art is required and its use is based on your treatment goals and interest. Many clients find that art therapy provides solutions to immediate problems, as well as being just plain fun! I provide all art materials in a comfortable and spacious studio setting.
I provide comprehensive and professional psychosocial evaluations for pre-surgical bariatric candidates and immigration documentation, and completed evaluations are usually possible with as little as one week's notice.
