Patricia McMahon, PsyD Dr. Patricia McMahon, PsyD
Beginning counseling is one of the most significant decisions an individual makes. The process should be life changing. It is a process that you and I will work together to direct.
During the first session, we explore the reasons you seek counseling and set goals. I will ask you to provide some personal history that may impact how difficulties have developed. During subsequent sessions, we collaborate to identify behaviors, situations, or thinking that impact how you move toward your goals. Although the focus and process is unique for each individual, relationships and the interface between emotions and thinking/problem solving are key components of each treatment.
You set the direction and pace of your personal work with me; however, I ask questions or offer observations when either of us notices the treatment is moving off-track. Although my general approach is a psychodynamically informed psychotherapy, I draw on CBT and other approaches to best fit counseling to each client's needs.
