Identity Renegotiation Counseling
Dr. Thomas W. Blume, Ph.D, LMFT, LPC
People seek counseling for many reasons, but often it is because they feel isolated -- even in close relationships where they hope to feel recognized, loved, and appreciated. It is hard to keep connections alive when when new demands--new people in the household, changes at work or school, an "empty nest" or family changes related to aging--disrupt relationships. I focus on making sense of what is going on and finding a path forward.
My unique approach (described at www.identityrenegotiation.com) focuses on people's needs to update their lives when they are stuck. I help clients learn how to rework their identities -- who they are in their relationships -- through collaboration and coordination with others.
I conduct sessions in the office and electronically with individuals, couples, and families. I find that distance technologies are especially helpful with stepfamilies, military and other long distance relationships, and multiple households.
