Susan D. Stone, MSW, LCSW
Susan Dowd Stone, MSW, LCSW is an award winning therapist, author, and nationally known mental health expert; past president and current Chair of Postpartum Support International, board member of Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition, an Adjunct Lecturer at the Silver School of Social Work, NYU, and a public reviewer for the NIMH. She received her MSW from NYU which honored her with a President's Service Award. Recent 2009 awards also include The Mental Health Association Golden Bell Award, The Logan Leadership Award, and the Hudson Perinatal Consortium.
Stone was a contributor to the NJ Governor's educational webinar on PPD. She is a frequent consultant on women's mental health issues; recent writings include Perinatal and Postpartum Mood Disorders: Perspectives and Treatment Guide for the Healthcare Practitioner (Stone & Menken, eds, Springer, 2008), Empowering PPD Recovery with Dialectical Behavior Therapy and a chapter on the use of Dialectical Behavior Therapy in Cognitive Behavior Therapy in Clinical Social Work Practice, (Ronen & Freeman, Springer, 2006). Her Powerpoint presentation, 'Telling the Birth Story', is the most downloaded PPT reference guide for PPD programs in the world.
After graduation, she worked in the Department of Psychiatry at Hackensack University Medical Center where she worked in the trauma center as well as provided individual and group therapy for a wide range of mental health issues. She regularly presents on women's reproductive mental health issues at educational conferences, and in the media; national television appearances have included the CBS Early Show, ABC News, NJN News, NBC News, The New Morning Show (Hallmark), A Place of Our Own (PBS), the Morning Show (FOX) and many others.
She has presented on Capitol Hill with Brooke Shields and others and contributes expert viewpoint to legislation, media content and emerging research.
